Deltagere:

(= + = hustru / sambo) – I alt altså 11.

– og beså bl. a. Nordens Hus.

I mellemtiden var det sejlende detachement (’Thetis’ og ’Kroppur’) ankommet;

Klaus

?

!

Wednesday:

Just arrived in the small, but new Hotel STREYM in walking distance from downtown.

The sailing was “orson”.  The ship is properly as large as the Oslo “boat”.  There are some 300 cabins, but only two facing forward. I got one of them.  The cabin was larger than the Oslo one, larger bathroom etc.   Many restaurants and bars, also with entertainment.   Total 1.400 passengers, 350 crew, 3 decks of cars.

All afternoon yesterday, Tuesday, we had quite a lot of sunshine, and the sailing along the cost of Norway was beautiful, with sun on fishing villages and high mountains.  As they are sailing north of the Shetland Islands, and not between the Orkney islands as we did in the navy, we followed the Norwegian cost longer. Relatively calm sea, but still Lone got seasick for a while.  We had a nice, pre-reserved lunch when we started and dinner around 20:00 gmt.

Ole and Lone went to bed shortly after dinner and I had a drink or three in the bar.

I calculated that we would pass the most northern Shetland Island around 6am, and sure enough, I woke and could see the most northern boulders of Scotland from my cabin.

Today it rained, but there are no much to see, other than water and fog.  Got a lot of reading on my Kindle, and talking with Ole and Lone.

It is raining here in Thorshavn.  Met a few of the buddies, who has arranged for dinner in town tonight.

Thursday:

That was an exiting day.  Breakfast with those staying in my hotel STREYM.  The Kaskelej, nickname for a Faroese, had arranged visit on the inspection ship where we were told to meet at 12:00Z sharp. The group wanted to pack and I walked into the town only some 20 minutes away.  The ship was supposed to be at the quayquay just next to the Denmark cruise liner.  Happily enough I was 40 minutes early.  No inspection ship where it should be, but I could see it laying at Bachalau quay, far away.  I walked the about 40 minutes as fast I could, around shipyards and Tinganes arrived maybe 2 minutes late.  No Maritime Friends.  The watch at the gangway told me that as they came in same morning, they had called Kaskelayen and postponed the arrival of the group with ladies until 13:00  They had tried to contact me, but my phone, as you know, do not work here.  The lack of phone “came to be an advance”.

I was invited to come onboard and was invited to have lunch with the captain, 52 years old, at his table, soup and medisterpølse and white potatoes, in the officer lounge.  That was interesting.  The captain was impressed that I had sailed over the Atlantic navigating with sextant, having a Coastguard approved Captain License etc.  He told me, much more about the latest new navigation aids, they have on board and a lot about sailing and navigation of the inspection ship, much more than when he later took the group around.  The group exchanged gifts as common in the navy.  We had a Cote of Arms, with our names made in advance which we handed over.

The ship was incredible.  All the newest of everything.  Details will follow.

Ole and Lone stay in an other hotel, and I have contact with them on the internet.  I am waiting for reply from CBB MOBIL, but I doubt that the company exist anymore under that name, but I did get an automatic reply.  I am sure that we have automatic fill up from the Danske Bank which we ordered last year in October.

After the ship, we went home or up to Klaus’s friend, a priest, Martin and Birgit, Klaus’ friends, where we had ordered sandwiches.  I had several pieces of skærpekød, dried sheep meet, which I like, but I burped from it the rest of the day, although it was watered down in my stomach with several snaps and Faroe beer.

Ole and Lone take an overnight in Mykines.  I am not going as the walk on the island is too tough for me.

I am looking forward to have two days alone walking around Thorshavn,  The weather is partly sunny today.

Today

My phone problem is solved.  I went to  see one of the two cel-phone operators, who confirmed that my phone can not connect to any of the two local services.  However, I do not need to buy a new phone.  They will change my SIM card, get me a new number, and just pay for the minimum of time around 100 DKR.  I get the sim in my phone around 5pm and have reserved dinner in hotel Hafnia at 6pm.

I had hoped that I could get a whale beef for dinner, but no one dare to have it on the menu, as there are still some of these american/english anti grinde-whale people here, and they smash the restaurant windows, if they have whale beef on the menu.

My legs are sore, due to long walks in town.  I got a nice Faroense cardigan.  Ready for my lunch nap.

Best regards,

Arne
